8 Smart Uses of Glass in Interiors!

A versatile element that is both functional and ornamental. Glass is used in varied ways in Interior Design. From an ubiquitous window pane to a Stained glass partition, Glass is a feature that one comes across in very many different forms in our everyday living.

Today we take a sneak peek into the ways in which Glass can be used to create aesthetic and vibrant spaces.


·       Clear Glass
-       Basic type of glass that is ideal for spaces that require to be well lit.
-       Used as Partitions, panes in windows and doors, Skylights, as artefacts.




·       Toughened or Tempered Glass
-       Glass that has undergone thermal processes to increase its strength and hence does not break easily.
-       Shatters into small pieces instead of sharp shards reducing chances of injury.
-       Best form of glass to be used as Safety railings for staircases, Table tops, Partition walls and doors.




·       Laminated Glass
-       Consists of 2 or more glass permanently bonded with layers of polyvinyl butyral (PVB) to increase strength of glass.
-       Extremely useful in areas where safety is paramount.
-       Shower cubicles, Floor panels, Table tops, Jewellery store counters and Staircase treads are where this form of glass is used.



·       Lacquered Glass
-       Coloured glass made by baking a coating of Lacquer onto Clear Glass.
-       Favoured by Designers for its Aesthetic appeal.
-       Used as writing boards, backsplashes, Panelling, Wardrobe and Storage shutters and for Sign boards.





·       Tinted Glass
-       Made by adding small amounts of Metal oxides to colour Glass.
-       Helps reduce heat transmission into a space making it energy efficient.
-       As an embellisher, Tinted glass is used in Partitions, as Door and Window panes and as a branding element.




·       Textured Glass
-       Glass with a decorative pattern embossed on it, this form of glass is both functional and decorative in nature.
-       Useful to be in spaces that require privacy but also need sufficient light transmission.
-       It can be used as a Partition panel in restaurants, as Shower cubicles, in cabinet shutters or as space dividers.





·       Frosted Glass
-       Made by Sandblasting or acid etching clear glass to make it translucent. This finish can also be achieved by applying a Vinyl film.
-       Reduces visibility while also allowing muted light transmission.
-       Used in Cabinet shutters, in Door and Windows, for Panelling and as a branding element.



·       Glass bricks
-       Perfect for spaces that require visual and auditory privacy.
-       This Structural member’s translucent property allows transmission of light while offering a certain degree of insulation against heat and cold.
-       Used as Partition and Feature walls, as part of furniture units, as floor panels and in Skylights.
